The Black Keys consist of childhood mates Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums), who got together in 2001. They literally written and recorded music from garages and basements; yet indie fans are readily drawn to their lo-fi, DIY, blues-rock-punk sound. From basement recordings, self-distributed and released albums, to underground clubs, music festivals, then concert halls, The Black Keys steadily built a loyal and rabid fanbase. In they year 2000 when there was a revival of interest for a new wave of garage bands, The Black Keys emerged atop. They headlined prominent indie music fests which include Coachella, Catalpa Music Festival, Lollapalooza, Osheaga, among others. Their maintream success came in 2010 with the release of the album Brothers, which spawned the single “Tighten Up”, that took home three Grammy Awards. The release of their 2011 album El Camino, put them on the number 2 spot on Billboard’s 200 chart, and also gave them three Grammy wins in that same year, namely Best Rock Album, Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for the single “Lonely Boy”.
