Formed in 1991, the Dave Matthews Band saw its beginnings when band leader Dave Matthews teamed up with the seasoned jazz musicians drummer Carter Beauford and saxophonist LeRoi Moore to put together some songs he had recorded on tape. Later joined by bassist Stefan Lessard, keys player Peter Griesar, and violinist Boyd Tinsley, the first incarnation of the Dave Matthews Band was complete. Performing their early gigs in Charlottesville, Virginia, they soon became a regularly booked act at the Eastern Standard and Trax Nightclub.
Growing a reputation for their unique sound, blending elements of rock and jazz, the Dave Matthews Band started to perform in areas outside of Virginia, including major cities such as New York and Washington D.C! Over the next few years their fanbase exploded, helped along by the band’s open recording policy, which helped to create a sense of community between the band and their listeners. That community is still very much in existence, and that’s what you can expect to experience on June 23rd!!
